Continental Airlines International Friendship Run

The Continental Airlines International Friendship Run is now open to all U.S. residents.U.S. residents only. International residents must register at the Expo. Please note that all t-shirts distribute for the Continental Airlines International Friendship Run will be size large. There will be no baggage check for this race.

The Continental Airlines International Friendship Run is a fun run for international marathon entrants and ticketed guests*.

Participants and spectators are also invited to the presentation of the 2007 Abebe Bikila Award at the United Nations prior to the race. This award is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the sport of distance running. Past winners include Fred Lebow, Frank Shorter, Bill Rodgers, Tegla Loroupe, and Mayor Rudolph Giuliani.
The run begins immediately following the ceremony and is free to international marathon entrants. Friends and family of international marathoners who would like to take part may purchase tickets for $20 at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo.
CourseThe run will begin at 9:00 a.m. on First Avenue at 44th Street, outside the United Nations. Runners will turn right onto 42nd street heading west, turn right again on 6th Avenue heading north, and then finish on 6th Avenue at 54th Street. After the finish, runners may walk north until 57th Street. At that point, all runners must turn off 6th Avenue and head east or west.
Spectators are invited to come out and cheer the runners
as they make their way through the streets of Midtown Manhattan. Many
participants wear their national colors or carry flags in joyful demonstration
of international diversity.

This year for the first time ever, 1,500 U.S. residents will take part in the Continental Airlines International Friendship Run on Saturday, November 3, and you can be one of them. Usually open only to international marathon entrants and friends, this 1.75-mile non-scored run provides a chance for marathoners to shake out the legs before the ING New York City Marathon the following day, and gives non-marathoners an opportunity to take part in some of the exciting action of marathon weekend. Registration is open to all runners who reside in the United States, and will close after the 1,500-entrant capacity has been met.
Packet distribution will take place at the ING New York City Marathon Health and Fitness Expo at the Javits Center from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 1 and November 2. Runners must pick-up their race numbers and t-shirts at the Continental Airlines International Friendship Run tables located in the registration area of the expo.
