ROMP TO STOMP OUT BREAST CANCER

"Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer" event highlights Mountain Creek's Women's Weekend

Categories: New Jersey, Skiing, Snowboarding
Saturday and Sunday, January 26th - 27th has been designated Women's Weekend at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon.
The cornerstone of this weekend will be the Tubbs Snowshoe Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series stop on Saturday.
This benefit puts a new twist on charity runs and walks: including a 3k or 5k scenic snowshoe hike, as well as a 3k snowshoe fun run. Participants who collect pre-event pledges will receive great prize packages from event sponsors, which will be awarded based on total team or individual funds raised. Up to 400 pair of Tubbs snowshoes will be available to use free of charge on a first come, first served basis, so get here early, rent at a local shop or bring your own! To register and learn more click here.
75% of the funds raised will go to fund grants in North Jersey for programs that focus on breast cancer screening, education and treatment, with the other 25% supporting research and education projects nationwide through Komen for the Cure's national grant program. The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of volunteers working through local Affiliates and Komen Race for the Cure® events to eradicate breast cancer. The Northern New Jersey affiliate carries out this mission on a local level.
Mountain Creek will also host Girls Learn to Ride sessions on Saturday. This is the perfect opportunity for women ages 5 and up, who've never snowboarded before, but always wanted to try. . .or who are looking to improve their riding skills in a supportive environment. The Girls Learn to Ride program is specially designed to give girls and women an opportunity to learn and progress in the sport in an all-female environment. The $79 package includes rentals, lesson and lift ticket. Learn more by clicking here.
K2's Pretty in Pink Rail Jam on Sunday, January 27th is just for you! Perfect for skiers and riders with little to no competition experience, who want to come out and enjoy a morning on the rails with members from the K2 Ski and Snowboard Alliance Teams supporting you and giving pointers. Winners will receive great giveaways from K2.
Mountain Creek has put together a lodging package to complement this women's weekend. Rates start at just $200 per person and include spa-style classes such as yoga, Qigong and the Art of Self Massage from 1-5pm, followed by a cocktail reception from 5-7pm Saturday evening in The Appalachian Hotel. Massages are also being offered at an additional cost and can be reserved by calling Vernon Massage and Wellness at 973-764-5570.

Academy Awards 2008

Jon Stewart(Photo by Frank W. Ockenfels 3)
Jon Stewart has been set to host the 80th Academy Awards® telecast, producer Gil Cates announced today. This will mark Stewart's second stint as Oscar host.
“Jon was a terrific host for the 78th Awards,” said Cates. “He is smart, quick, funny, loves movies and is a great guy. What else could one ask for?”
Stewart has been host and executive producer of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” winner of four consecutive Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series, since 1999. The show has also been bestowed with two Peabody Awards. In 2004 Stewart and the writers of “The Daily Show” also authored America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction, which was awarded the Thurber Prize for American Humor and was a staple on The New York Times best seller list for 46 consecutive weeks.
“I’m thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time’s a charm,” said Stewart.
Stewart has appeared in more than a dozen motion pictures. His television credits include a one-hour HBO comedy special, "Jon Stewart: Unleavened," a recurring role as himself on HBO’s series-within-a-series, "The Larry Sanders Show," as well as an upcoming appearance on “The Simpsons.” Stewart hosted the Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.

Sunday worship. The Holy Eucharist is offered every Sunday at 9:30 am. Our service is conducted using modern-day English texts. This service always provides readings from the Old and New Testament, and sermons are usually based upon these readings. Congregational singing is an important part of our services. Link here to next Sunday's readings from the Bible, reflections on the sermons and information from our Sunday bulletin. Link

We're a little greener. For Earth Day 2007 the Church of Our Saviour changed all lighting from incandescent lights to energy saving compact fluorescent lights. Now, every time that someone flicks a switch at the church they'll be using one fourth the electricity previously required. We're doing our part to reduce global warming gases created by power generation. Find our more about the big switch. Link

Advocacy for justice and peace. By taking a little time to become better informed, to write a letter, to send an e-mail, or to tell a friend, you can put your social conscience to work, showing your love for your neighbors and your stewardship for the world God has given to us. On our Justice web page we connect with the well- organized social advocacy programs in other denominations and agencies. Look at the issues. You'll be enlightened. And its a fairly easy way of putting your time and talent to work. Link
Feed the hungry. Preserve the rainforest. Save the big cats. Our church website offers another way for you to participate in the stewardship of God's creation. Click on the links to the left and you can provide, at no cost to you, food to the hungry, land for rainforest preservation, assistance in preserving the big cats in the wild and new trees to plant.
