Meadowlands Stadium

Meadowlands Stadium
After playing at the same stadium for more than two decades, Giants Stadium, both the New York Giants and Jets will share their future home when it opens in 2010. In September 2005, both the Giants and Jets announced that they had reached an agreement to build a new stadium in the Meadowlands. For nearly five years, both teams had been exploring options of having separate stadiums built, the Jets on Manhattan's west side, and the Giants in New Jersey. After the Jets failed to get a new stadium built in Manhattan, they decided to team up with the Giants to build a new stadium adjacent to Giants Stadium.
In September 2007, renderings and details of the new Meadowlands stadium were released. Although site work begin in April 2007 for the stadium, official groundbreaking was held on September 5, 2007. The future home of the Giants and Jets will have a seating capacity of 82,500. This will include over 200 luxury suites, 9,200 club seats, two club lounges and four restaurants. Four 40' x 130' video/scoreboards will be hung from the upper deck in each corner of the stadium. Since the stadium will be the home of two teams, individualization is an important concept of the stadium. Interior colors will switch depending on which team is at home. Outside, giant red pylons at the North and East entrances will show videos of whatever team is playing at the stadium. The signature feature will be the Great Wall. To be built in the shape of a rectangle, this 400' x 40' high wall will show murals of players and team moments for people to see outside the stadium. Both the Jets and Giants have committed to New Jersey for the next 99 years. This will be the first time two teams have come together 50/50 in a partnership to build a new stadium. The stadium will open in time for the 2010 season. Current plans call for Giants Stadium to remain standing.

New York Giants Superbowl

Team Report: Inside SlantInside Slant Notes and Quotes Strategy and Personnel
It isn't difficult to tell that this is the beginning of Super Bowl Hype Week. The daily newspapers have already exhausted their ammunition for the bye week, and with respect to the Giants we have learned that Lawrence Tynes, the kicker, has a brother serving 27 years in prison for trafficking in marijuana. We have learned that Giants' defensive end Justin Tuck and Patriots linebacker Adalius Thomas are second cousins once (or twice or however many) removed and that they grew up six miles apart in rural Alabama.
We have learned that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin are reasonably close friends -- perhaps as close as either of them can allow -- from their days with the Giants when both labored under the Big Tuna, Bill Parcells.
It is clearly getting time for football.
Neither coach, as might be expected, has been forthcoming with any strategy or plans, nor should you expect any right up to and through game time. The players have obviously been threatened with torture if they reveal anything about game plans or injuries.
"We know," said Giants' center Shaun O'Hara, "that Coach Coughlin and Coach Belichick like each other, and that is rather surprising. "We know that when they were assistant coaches here Coughlin was in charge of the wide receivers and Belichick was in charge of the defensive backs, so I guess they were able to enact some simulated games that way."
What we don't know is exactly how the Giants are planning to derail the undefeated Patriots, with only one more chance before they get into the history books. That chance, of course, is this Sunday in Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., and while the Patriots are heavily favored, there are more and more so-called experts who are beginning to sway toward the underdogs, the NFC champions who have become only the third team since 1970 to get to the Super Bowl as a wild-card entry into the playoffs and on the platform of three straight road victories (against three NFC division champions).
Nor has it been overly noted that the Cowboys opened their season with a home victory over the Giants and ended the same way, with a home defeat to them. The Green Bay Packers opened their road season in Giants Stadium with a victory (in Week Two) and ended their season against the Giants in Lambeau Field.
In fact, the Giants have atoned for each loss of their 10-6 season (they lost twice to Dallas, once to Green Bay, one to Washington in a two-game split and once to New England) except one.
That opportunity is scheduled for Sunday, the most important last game of the year for both teams, the game that carries Roman numerals as the only identification it needs.
And now, since the extra (wasted) week is done, we can get back down to football.

The Meadowlands Liberty Community

The Meadowlands Liberty Community

The Meadowlands Liberty region is perhaps one of the most dynamic destinations in the world, offering a tremendously wide array of experiences, events, and entertainment for an area of its size. The Meadowlands Sports Complex is synonymous with world class spectator sporting events and regularly features the contests of the NFL, NBA, NCAA, NHL, and professional horse racing. Liberty State Park and the region are proud stewards to the nation’s most enduring symbol of freedom, The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. We offer diverse cultural and educational museums like the Liberty Science Center and its IMAX theater.
A stunning and often underestimated facet of the Meadowlands Liberty region is its inherent natural beauty. The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission has an incredible exploration center that allows visitors to immerse themselves into and understand the plethora of wildlife that abounds in our wetlands. Additionally, the area holds a newly commissioned Audubon Trail through what is the 2nd largest bird sanctuary on the Eastern seaboard. And throughout the Meadowlands Liberty region there are many parks and other places with incredible New York City views.Traveling To, From, and within the Meadowlands Liberty region couldn’t be any easier. The immediate area is served by Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) and Teterboro Airport (TEB), the Secaucus (SEC) and Hoboken (HOB) junction NJ TRANSIT stations, a multitude of other train, light rail, and bus stops, and the river ferries to Manhattan. The area is 5 minutes from midtown New York City, which, surprisingly, is closer than Wall Street. A full spectrum of hotels, restaurants, and meeting halls make staying here a cinch. Or come and take advantage of the incredible bargains, the outlets, or the tax-free clothing.
The region is rich culturally and has an evolving
history that promises an exciting future for the Meadowlands Liberty region. There are numerous Houses of Worship and colleges and professional schools of all varieties. And the region is emerging as the newest financial services hub, Wall Street West.

Categories: New Jersey, Skiing, Snowboarding
Saturday and Sunday, January 26th - 27th has been designated Women's Weekend at Mountain Creek Resort in Vernon.
The cornerstone of this weekend will be the Tubbs Snowshoe Romp to Stomp Out Breast Cancer Snowshoe Series stop on Saturday.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of volunteers working through local Affiliates and Komen Race for the Cure® events to eradicate breast cancer. The Northern New Jersey affiliate carries out this mission on a local level.

Academy Awards 2008

Jon Stewart(Photo by Frank W. Ockenfels 3)
Jon Stewart has been set to host the 80th Academy Awards® telecast, producer Gil Cates announced today. This will mark Stewart's second stint as Oscar host.
“Jon was a terrific host for the 78th Awards,” said Cates. “He is smart, quick, funny, loves movies and is a great guy. What else could one ask for?”
Stewart has been host and executive producer of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” winner of four consecutive Emmy® Awards for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series, since 1999. The show has also been bestowed with two Peabody Awards. In 2004 Stewart and the writers of “The Daily Show” also authored America (The Book): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction, which was awarded the Thurber Prize for American Humor and was a staple on The New York Times best seller list for 46 consecutive weeks.
“I’m thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time’s a charm,” said Stewart.
Stewart has appeared in more than a dozen motion pictures. His television credits include a one-hour HBO comedy special, "Jon Stewart: Unleavened," a recurring role as himself on HBO’s series-within-a-series, "The Larry Sanders Show," as well as an upcoming appearance on “The Simpsons.” Stewart hosted the Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002.
Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2007 will be presented on Sunday, February 24, 2008, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network.
